"Some fancy thing for some fancy guy." That's my current navy vocabulary. There are gestures to go along with it, and a specific tone of voice.
So, that's where he's at. At that.
I started the day at 6:15, to "Oh shit!" and I knew that we were late. I've heard that exact "Oh shit!" many times before. It kind of has a familiar place in our lives. We managed to get both sleeping kids and ourselves out the door in 5 minutes. Then to the base in less than 15. He was slightly late...but, only slightly.
Then, my inlaws came and I went to my class. (I love my class!!!) We walked around a nature sanctuary and talked ethnobotany. It was cold, and fall, and the lake was misty. There were hundreds and hundreds of birds enjoying their freedom and the berries. And despite that I could hear the highway traffic ever too close, it was really really beautiful.

(Snowberry. Native to here.)
This evening we took out the copper firepit and had a campfire. My daughter was really into it, my son wanted to jump into the fire. He doesn't quite get hot yet. This week of fall has been sunny and colourful, staring at the acers, trying to decide on my next tree. Just enjoying.
I've identified an aronia in my garden, better known at chokeberry, and that the 2 mystery plants that I thought were kiwis are actually baby hazel trees. I planted my peach tree as close as I could to the garden shed wall, southwest facing. My hurdle was to dig a deep and wide enough hole to allow for its roots to spread, while having to nestle the poor thing in between 2 concrete wheels that I assume cap off the old septic tank. (Imagine a hole that looks like an hourglass.)I figure, what the heck...if it works it works and we get fresh peaches, if it doesn't I spent 29 dollars and learned something.
I plan to espalier it. A whole other lesson.
