Day 408: The last post

These are the pictures I didn't take at his last change of command. Coming in wasn't his day...It was, but it wasn't. Today though...

Now this was his day.

It's funny how this has become my new normal. All the ceremony, tradition, formality...the way events like these go, like clockwork, and that I know what to expect and when.

Today was different though, if only slightly. Today 'I' got honoured too, much to my surprise and delight. He thanked me in his speech, they thanked me with flowers, me, the wife, the keeper of home, got acknowledged and appreciated, and that made me feel like an important part of what he does.

He deserved today. Every strange and hilarious moment of it.

I'll never know exactly what he does or how hard he works, but the kind and revering words I was privy to today only confirm that I've landed someone pretty special.

We are so proud of you baby. This has been a great year.

Signing off.

Day 407: The last day.

Today was my last day of being a captain's wife. (Well, technically tomorrow is but only until 11am.) And then...

What?

It's been kind of cool chronicling this year. Cool that I can look back on it in thoughts and pictures. Cool that I got the chance, and that I followed through with an idea.
Not that I garnered a massive fanbase or made my millions or much of anything really, but I think I learned a thing or two...
Keeping this blog got me to look a little deeper at myself, at the lives of military families, at my children through my viewfinder, and at my husband in particular and the sacrifices he makes for us.
I see this as a jumping off point to the next. One door that has led to another. And the other? Well, that is in the works. Something new and different (to me).

So, tomorrow I'll post pictures of the Change of Command ceremony, then I guess I'll take my leave.

Just as he takes his, I will follow.

This was yesterday...

A good day.

Day 403: Pink, white and purple.

This is the view out of my daughter's bedroom window...

...that I linger over as she gets dressed, goes to bed, when I put clothes away or pick things up off the floor.

And this is the view towards my blackberry bramble, out my diningroom window, off the deck.

There is alot of white and purple right now...punctuated with alot of pink.

Day 402: A poll.

What colour should I paint Buddy's room?

Right now it's pink.

And yes that's a giant pile of laundry (and growing) dumped on his new bed. I hate folding laundry!

Day 400: Us and Me Lately

This was us on Canada Day.

A beautiful Westcoast day, a trip to a new beach, a family walk with two happy dogs (we're dogsitting my inlaws little terrier), the mountains, and many many other people doing pretty much the same. We ate a traditional Canada Day dinner of hot wings with blue cheese dressing, and good local microbrewed beer. TV trays and a movie.

And I've also been working on this:

The 25X50feet blackberry bramble on the eaternmost side of our yard.

The string is where a fence is going. The rest will be the (modified) thicket that I spoke about here.

We'll see

Day 395: Us and Our House.

This is the first picture of the four of us and our house.

First of many.
